 Stamped metal grips

Stamped metal grips like used on the "SVW" French P.38's

Coll. E.H. van Essen

The stamped metal grips (from the Mauser factory) were ,according to several experts, already developed for the German army in the last months of the war.  This was due to the shortage of petroleum. When the French allied forces took over the factory (supplies) they just continued to use the grips on their "SVW "stamped P.38's. The stamped metal grips are therefore very common on the approximately  37.000 French made P38's.

Russian grips

Coll. Mark Castel

The Russians made their own grips to replace the broken grips on the P.38's they confiscated.   Most Russian grips are totally black in colour. They are sometimes also found in brown. You can distinguish them from WWII made German grips by the raised ridges.
